Operation Desert Fun

Ocotillo Wells 10/15/05

This Cal4 event was well attended by club members as follows:

Rubolinos

Pfiefers

Adams

Macks

Jones

Storms

Several members had to cancel due to health or family problems and were missed.

Arlene and I ran registration and the event had around 180 registered vehicles (72 had preregistered).

We met the Rubolinos at my current work location in Coachella Thursday afternoon and drove to our campground at the Leapin Lizard RV Park near the event in Ocotillo Wells. After set up we enjoyed the warm afternoon in the shade and the Adams arrived to join us late afternoon.

Friday we met with the event group and started registration at 2:00 pm with club members arriving and helping at various times during the day. Registration closed at 10:00 pm and we left for the RV Park and joined the club members for a short period before turning in.

Saturday we worked registration 6:00am to 9:00am and joined the Rubolinos, Pfiefers and Macks for the “easy run” to the “Pumpkin Patch” which had enough challenge for my Dakota. Great scenery and weather – high in the mid 90s and a little wind- made the trip enjoyable and we returned to camp around 3:00pm. Vince and Rob took a harder run that took them a little longer and they arrived back at the campground around 4:00pm.

The wind got pretty strong, the comfort of the campground prevailed and the club spent the rest of the evening sharing food, tales and fire at the campground group center. Robert Rucker joined us for a visit that evening.

General thoughts:

We may volunteer for registration next year but will plan on a little better set up and planning to make the job easier. We loved the campground and will definitely plan on reserving the place next year. I think our club members had a great time and I hope everyone and more return with us next year. Many thanks for the help everyone gave us this year.
